Signs of Fall

When I laid eyes on these plants on my way to school I had to stop and take a closer look, because it seemed like someone had spray painted the leaves with liquid gold. But no, this is mother nature in all her glory. And one of the reasons to love fall, even if it means the end of summer.

As I type this I have officially survived my first week of being a student again (yaaay!). It’s been a crazy couple of days with lots of new impressions and of course there have been some challenging moments too. I’m a creature of habit and changing not only from working to studying but also moving across the country is quite a lot to process.

But it feels like things are getting better day by day. Big portions of oatmeal with sunflower butter are also helping. 🙂

Today I finally got broadband connection in my apartment and that makes life so much easier. So far I had to sneak into the law school library close by my apartment to “borrow” their wifi. You could easily hear a needle drop in there, so even unzipping my backpack made me feel a little uncomfortable. 😀

Completely unrelated, but worth mentioning: One of the perks to living in the “Länggasse” area is an Ethiopian restaurant right around the corner. Even just the sourdough bread called “Injera” is worth a visit. Or five. Pretty sure I could live off that kind of food for the next three years.

And I can’t end this post without showing you this hilarious picture of a neighbor cat I took up in the mountains a couple of days ago before I moved…  In my next life I’d like to be a cat please. Nothing wrong with laying around all day while the sun is shining on your belly. 😀

Moving to Bern

Holy moly. It’s happening. In just a couple of days I will move to Bern and live there for at least three years, while I study to become a registered dietitian.

A couple of days last week were spent apartment hunting and exploring parts of the city. There are so many amazing sights and restaurants all over the place. My student budget will definitely not allow a lot of fancy restaurant visits, but maybe I’ll splurge on take away once in a while. YOLO, right? 😉

And oh boy, Tibits is quite close to my new apartment. I am not sure how I will overcome the temptation to check out their buffet every time I walk by. Tibits is an all vegetarian buffet restaurant with changing dishes, every Tuesday their entire selection is vegan. The food is delicious but also quite pricey (you pay by weight and I always go bananas with my plate).

For real though, it’s almost impossible not to pile up a mountain of food on your plate. There are lots of indian inspired dishes, plenty of fresh salads and desserts and it’s super hard to choose because everything is delicious.

While I was in Bern, I also picked up the textbooks for the first semester. I have never seen a bookstore this packed with textbooks. 🙂

And of course I also had to stroll around in the gorgeous old town for a while.

I feel like there are lots of amazing things and sights waiting to be discovered. Look at these cute candleholders I stumbled upon for example! Absolutely love the vibrant colors.
